Samuel Powning & Mary Coldridge of Exeter
Samuel Powning COLDRIDGE, born in Exeter in 1827, is the eldest son of Samuel Taylor & Maria COLDRIDGE. He was curate of Moretonhampstead and later vicar of Ide. He married Mary when he was 36 and they had 3 children. His wife died shortly after the birth of their son, and his eldest daughter died at the age of 14.
The following notice appeared in the Exeter & Plymouth Gazette on Friday 23rd January 1863:
COLDRIDGE–WILTON. Jan. 20, at St. Sidwell's, Exeter, by the Rev. J. L. Galton, the Rev. S. P. COLDRIDGE, curate of Otterton, only son of S. T. COLDRIDGE, Esq., of East Budleigh, to Mary, eldest daughter of John W. WILTON, Esq., surgeon, of Gloucester. No cards sent.
Samuel Powning COLDRIDGE, age 36, bachelor, Clerk, of East Budleigh, married Mary WILTON, age 27, spinster, sojourner, on 20th January 1863 in Exeter St Sidwells. Witnesses W. WILTON, John WILTON, Celia COLDRIDGE, Charlotte WILTON.
Mary Louisa COLDRIDGE's birth was registered in June 1865 in St Thomas.

The following notice appeared in the Western Times on Sat 9th August 1879:
COLDRIDGE. Aug. 6, at lde, Mary Louisa (Minnie), elder daughter the Rev. S. P. COLDRIDGE, vicar of the parish, aged 14.

In 1881 Samuel Powning is widowed and living in Ide with his surviving children.
Amy Beatrice COLDRIDGE's birth was registered in September 1871 in Newton Abbot.
Harry Wilton COLDRIDGE's birth was registered in September 1873 in Newton Abbot.
Mary COLDRIDGE's death, aged 38, was also registered in September 1873 in Newton Abbot. Her death certificate states "Fatty degeneration of the heart and lung congestion. 10 days." and she died on 15th September, almost 3 months after Harry's birth on 23rd June.
