William & Maria Coldridge of Doddiscombsleigh

William COLDRIDGE, born around 1794 in Doddiscombsleigh, is the third son of Thomas & Mary COLDRIDGE, and is about 10 years younger than their eldest son John. William & Maria lived in Doddiscombsleigh and appear to have had 6 children, one of whom died in infancy. The later censuses give Maria's birthplace as Christow.

William COLDRIDGE's marriage at the age of 38 to Maria WILLS was recorded on 29th November 1832 in Doddiscombsleigh.

In 1841 William & Maria are living in Doddiscombsleigh with a young family. On the census return Shute is immediately before Holmbush, where his brother John lives. The Christow parish register records the baptism of their eldest daughter Mary:

Marianne COLDRIDGE was baptised on 4th December 1832 in Christow, daughter of William & Maria COLDRIDGE, noted as "base child / private". The baptism may have been some time after her birth.

The Doddiscombsleigh parish register has records of three children belonging to Maria and William COLERIDGE, labourer, living at Shute:

Henry William COLERIDGE was baptised on 17th January 1836 in Doddiscombsleigh. This was 5 days after his burial, aged 6 weeks, on 12th January 1836. [†]

William & Maria's daughter Mary, or Marianne, has disappeared and there are no BMD records for either name, but either of the following may possibly relate to her:

The Doddiscombsleigh parish register records the burial on 10th February 1846 of Anna Mary COLDRIDGE, aged 16, resident of Holmbush. [John & Betsey's farm]

Mary Ann COLDRIDGE's marriage to William BAILEY was registered in June 1853 in Newton Abbot.
