Thomas & Mary Coldridge of Doddiscombsleigh
Thomas COLDRIDGE, born around 1789 in Doddiscombsleigh, is the second son of Thomas & Mary COLDRIDGE and John's younger brother.
Thomas COLDRIDGE & Mary REED – Marriage 19th May 1816 in Holcombe Burnell.
Although Thomas & Mary don't appear in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses, parish records indicate that they were living in Alphington and Ide, then Doddiscombsleigh from 1822 to 1829 at least. They appear to have had 5 children, 2 of whom died in infancy and 1 at the age of 11.
There are parish records in Alphington and Ide for the baptisms of their first two children:
Elizabeth COLDRIDGE – Baptism 26th January 1817 in Alphington.
Elizabeth COLDRIDGE – Burial 6th February 1817 in Alphington [less than 2 weeks later]. [†]
John COLDRIDGE – Baptism 10th May 1818 in Ide.
The Doddiscombsleigh parish register also records three births to Mary & Thomas COLDRIDGE, labourer in the parish of Doddiscombsleigh:
Richard COLDRIDGE – Baptism 6th January 1822 in Doddiscombsleigh. In the later censuses he gives his place of birth as Ide.
Charles COLDRIDGE – Baptism 18th October 1825 in Doddiscombsleigh.
Charles COLDRIDGE – Burial 20th October 1825 in Doddiscombsleigh, aged 3 weeks. [†]
Martha COLDRIDGE – Baptism 4th February 1827 in Doddiscombsleigh.
The only other record relating to Thomas & Mary's family is this one in the parish register:
John COLDRIDGE – Burial 10th May 1829 in Doddiscombsleigh, aged 11.
The following notice appeared in the Salisbury and Winchester Journal on Saturday 30th September 1826:
