Richard & Anne Coldridge of Doddiscombsleigh

Richard COLRIDGE, baptised in Dunsford in 1667, is the second son of Richard & Grace COLDRIDGE of Dunsford. He was a yeoman farmer living in Doddiscombsleigh at the time of his second marriage in 1699:

Richard COLERIDGE of Doddiscombleigh, Yeoman, married Anne HULL of Newton St Cires on 14th April 1699 in Exeter St Mary Major.

The Doddiscombsleigh parish register records the baptisms of 3 sons to Richard COLRIDGE:

Richard COLRIDGE was baptised on 4th February 1699/00.

John COLRIDGE was baptised on 1st April 1701.

Charles COLDRIDGE was baptised on 7th May 1703.

The Doddiscombsleigh parish register records the death of their first son in early childhood and the baptisms of a further 4 sons and 2 daughters to Richard & Anne:

Grace COLRIDGE was baptised on 8th March 1704/5.

Richard COLRIDGE was baptised on 10th July 1707.

Thomas COLRIDGE was baptised on 26th January 1709/10.

Names sons John, Charles, Richard, Thomas, Joseph, Benjamin, daughter Grace and a child unborn [Jane]. Mentions the leasehold estate of Bagwell in Dunchideock and the freehold of Whitemore in Doddiscombsleigh (value £200) and Goosemore.

The Doddiscombsleigh parish register records the burials of two of Richard & Anne's children in the winter of 1720/1 and four more in the winter of 1736/7:

Richard COLRIDGE [aged 29] was buried on 9th February 1736/7.

Grace COLDRIDGE [aged 32] was buried on 24th February 1736/7.

Benjamin COLRIDGE [aged 22] was buried on 2nd March 1736/7.

Charles COLRIDGE [aged 33] was buried on 2nd March 1736/7.

Anne COLRIDGE was buried on 29th August 1741 in Doddiscombsleigh.

Out of the 8 children alive at Richard's death, only John and Thomas lived past their thirties – Thomas's children are recorded in the Doddiscombsleigh parish register but John appears to have died unmarried:

John COLRIDGE's burial, aged 50, was recorded on 2nd August 1751 in Doddiscombsleigh.
