John COLDRIDGE, born in Doddiscombsleigh in 1857, is the eldest child of Joseph & Elizabeth COLDRIDGE. He married and moved to Essex where he had 4 children.

John was in Ashton during the 1880's as evidenced by Colin Goss's baptism and the following notice in the Western Times, Exeter on Friday 4th July 1884:
STRAYED on the 17th inst. a YEARLING HEIFER. Anyone giving information of same to John COLDRIDGE, Higher Barton, Ashton, will be paid all reasonable expenses.
This notice appeared in the Western Times, Exeter on Friday 6th February 1891, just a few months before John was recorded in the Essex census:
To be let by Private Contract from Lady Day, 1891, all those Desirable Farms called "Ashton Higher Barton" and "Lower Cowley Farms" situate in the parish of Ashton, consisting of a good Dwelling House, Farm Buildings and about 251a. Arable, Meadow & Orchard Land. The above have been in the occupation of Mr. John COLDRIDGE, as tenant thereof, for several years past, and will be found very useful Farms.

Newspaper obituary 1942: Mr. John COLERIDGE. The funeral took place, at Torquay Cemetary, on Wednesday, of Mr. John COLERIDGE, of 28 Thurlow Road, who died on Monday. Mr. COLERIDGE, who was 85 years of age, came to Torquay from Norfolk. He had been connected with Torbay Mill Company for many years.
