George & Amelia COLDRIDGE of Exeter
George COLDRIDGE, born in Doddiscombsleigh in 1819, is the fifth son of John & Betsey COLDRIDGE. He is my great-great-grandfather's older brother, and was married twice. George's second wife Amelia was born in London and was considerably younger than him. They appear to have had 2 daughters.
George COLDRIDGE, Widower, Organ builder, residing Pavilion Place Magdalen Street, son of John COLDRIDGE, Yeoman, married Amelia MITCHELL, Spinster, residing North Street, daughter of John MITCHELL, Tailor, on 12th October 1865 in the Parish Church of St Petrock Exeter. Both of full age. Both signed. Witnesses Charles DICKER, Thos Jno TAYLER, Emma WRIGHT and Laura COLDRIDGE.
George COLDRIDGE's marriage to Amelia MITCHELL was registered in December 1865 in Exeter. George would have been 46 and Amelia about 21.

In 1871 George & Amelia are recorded with their younger daughter and George's daughter Laura from his first marriage. Amelia's birthplace is given as London and George has shaved 10 years off his age. Their older daughter Eliza is in Trusham with George's sister Amelia.
Eliza A E COLDRIDGE's birth was registered in September 1866 in Exeter. The Exeter & Plymouth Gazette records the birth of a daughter to the wife of Mr. George COLDRIDGE at 4 Pavilion-terrace, Exeter on 18th July 1866.

In 1891 George & Amelia are living in Exeter with daughters Ti (Gertie?) and Gladys, both born in Exeter Holy Trinity. George is not working - presumably organ building is not easy to find at the age of 72.
Gladys COLDRIDGE was born around 1871, apparently, but there is no BMD record, and given the entry for her sister this could be a pet-name for Eliza. However, there are definite records for three of their daughter's marriages:
Laura Celia [Nicholls] COLDRIDGE's marriage at the age of 27 to William HIGGS was registered in June 1880 in Exeter.
Eliza Amelia E COLDRIDGE's marriage at the age of 26 to Samuel SLOCOMBE was registered in March 1892 in Exeter.
Eliza Amelia Emma COLDRIDGE, age 25, Spinster, daughter of George COLDRIDGE, Organ Builder, married Samuel SLOCOMBE, age 25, Bachelor, Grocer's Assistant, son of William SLOCOMBE, Book Maker, on 20th March 1892 in the Parish Church of Holy Trinity Exeter by Superintendent Registrar's Certificate. Both residing Holloway street. Both signed. Witnesses George COLDRIDGE and Albert BODY.
Gertrude COLDRIDGE's marriage at the age of 26 to John MUDGE was registered in September 1894 in Totnes.
Gertrude COLDRIDGE, age 26, Spinster, daughter of George COLDRIDGE, Organ Builder, married John MUDGE, age 53, Widower, Mechanic, son of Henry MUDGE (deceased), Farmer, on 30th September 1894 in the Parish Church of Totnes after banns. Both residing Totnes. Both signed. Witnesses Charles FICE and Amelia COLDRIDGE.
