William & Sara COLERIDGE of Ottery St Mary

William Hart COLERIDGE, born in 1789, is the only son of Luke & Sarah COLERIDGE of Ottery St Mary. He was the first Bishop of Barbados and the Leeward Islands from 1824 until 1842.

William Hart COLERIDGE married Sara Eliza RENNELL on 11th October 1825 in Winchester St Swithin.

Sarah Anne COLERIDGE was baptised on 3rd May 1833 in St Michael, Barbados. Abode: Bishops Court.

Willliam Harte COLERIDGE, aged 22 months, was buried on 21st October 1835 in St Peter, Barbados. Abode: Speights Town.

Georgina Blackstone COLERIDGE was baptised on 2nd July 1835 in Ottery St Mary. Her burial was recorded on 5th October 1835 in Thorverton, noted as Bishop of Blackstone Barbados & Leeward Islands. [†]

In 1861 Sarah is in Ottery St Mary with her daughter, for whom the following marriage record was found:

Sarah Anne COLERIDGE, age 39, of Ottery St Mary, married Charles CLAPCOTT, age 38, of St Andrew Plymouth, on 29th July 1862 in Ottery St Mary.

There was a notice in the Western Times on 2nd August 1862:

CLAPCOTT–COLERIDGE. July 29, at the parish church Ottery St. Mary, Major CLAPCOTT, of H.M's 32nd Light Infantry, to Sarah Anne, only surviving daughter of the late Right Rev. Bishop COLERIDGE, Salston House.

There are records of William & Sara's deaths and probate:

William Hart COLERIDGE was buried on 28th December 1849 in Thorverton, and his death, aged 60, was registered in December 1849 in Honiton.

Sara Elizabeth COLERIDGE's death, aged 75, was registered in September 1869 in Honiton.

2 October 1869. The Will of Sarah Elizabeth COLERIDGE late of Beaumont House in the Parish of Ottery St. Mary in the County of Devon Widow deceased who died 29 August 1869 at Ottery St. Mary aforesaid was proved at Exeter by the oaths of William Rennell COLERIDGE of Salston House in the Parish aforesaid Esquire the Son and Charles CLAPCOTT of Winterborne St. Martin in the County of Dorset Esquire late Major of Her Majesty's 32nd Light Infantry the Executors. Effects under £6,000.
