Percy Duke COLERIDGE, born in 1850, is the eldest son of Francis & Sarah COLERIDGE of Thorverton. There was a notice of his marriage in the Western Times on 3rd July 1877:

COLERIDGE–LOVELL. June 27, at Kilbridge Church, Bray, Co. Wicklow, Percy Duke COLERIDGE, Royal Marines, eldest son the late F. J. COLERIDGE, Esq., of the Manor House, Ottery, to Edith Laura Matilda, eldest daughter of Capt. LOVELL, late of the 13th Regt.

There are records of Percy's death and probate, together with the following notice in the Western Times on 1st April 1881:

A shocking fatality occurred at Plymouth on Tuesday, the victim being Lieutenant and Adjutant Percy Duke COLERIDGE, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Lieut. COLERIDGE was inspecting the positions to be occupied by battalion drill the following morning. Whilst proceeding at full gallop across the Brickfields, his horse, a high-bred animal, became restive and attempted thrice to throw him. Lieut. COLERIDGE maintained his hold, however, until the gravel paving was reached, when the horse crossed its fore legs and fell, pitching its rider on the back of his head and crushing his body by rolling on it. Lieut. COLERIDGE was borne unconscious to the hospital, where he died within four hours.
