John & Ann COLERIDGE of Ottery St Mary

John COLERIDGE, born in 1719, is the eldest surviving son of John & Mary COLERIDGE of Crediton, and there is a record of his second marriage in Exeter:

John COLERIDGE married Ann BOWDEN on 18th December 1753 in Exeter St Mary Arches. Both recorded as residing in South Molton.

In 1753, he became lecturer at Molland (5 miles east of South Molton), where he met his second wife, and was later curate there. In August 1760, he was appointed Schoolmaster and Chaplain Priest of the King’s Grammar School at Ottery, and shortly after appointed Vicar.

Three baptisms of John & Ann's children are recorded in the South Molton parish register:

William COLERIDGE was baptised on 15th September 1755. His burial was recorded on 26th May 1756. [†]

William COLERIDGE was baptised on 8th March 1758.

James COLERIDGE was baptised on 3rd December 1759.

Six baptisms of John & Ann's children are recorded in the Ottery St Mary parish register:

Edward COLERIDGE was baptised on 4th July 1760, date of birth 14th June 1760.

George COLERIDGE was baptised on 26th April 1764, date of birth 23rd March 1764.

Luke Herman COLERIDGE was baptised on 19th December 1765, date of birth is given as 18th October 1765.

Ann COLERIDGE was baptised on 18th June 1767, date of birth 10th March 1767.

Francis Syndercombe COLERIDGE was baptised on 6th June 1770, date of birth 6th January 1770.

Samuel Taylor COLERIDGE was baptised on 30th December 1772, date of birth 21st October 1772.

The Butterleigh parish register has a record of the late baptism of John & Ann's first son who was born just 5 months after their marriage:

John COLDRIDGE was baptised on 1st May 1862. Birthplace given as Upton-Pine and date of birth 9th May 1754.

There are records of the deaths of John & Ann and their unmarried children:

Rev. Wm COLERIDGE was buried on 26th November 1780 in St Benet Fink, London.

John COLERIDGE was buried on 10th October 1781 in Ottery St Mary.

Ann COLERIDGE, daughter of the late Rev. John Coleridge, was buried on 12th March 1791 in Ottery St Mary.

Ann COLERIDGE, widow of the Rev. John Coleridge, was buried on 8th November 1809 in Ottery St Mary.

John COLERIDGE. Died December 1787, at Tellicherry.

John COLERIDGE. Administration granted to Alexander COLVIN on 6th June 1788.

Francis COLERIDGE. Died 21st January 1792, in the Carnatic.

Francis COLERIDGE. Will & Testament dated 19th December 1791. Administration granted to Henry TRAIL 20th October 1792.

Madras Courier 2nd February 1792: On the 21st Instant died in Camp, Lieutenant Francis COLERIDGE, of the 14th Battalion of Bengal Sepoys.
