CHAGFORD. An inquest was held at Middlecott Farm on Monday, touching the death of Mr. John COLRIDGE, aged 74, farmer, of Middlecott Farm, who found dead on Saturday morning in a pigstye. Mr. Moses COLRIDGE, of Shapeley Farm, North Bovey, deposed that his father had good health, but was very much crippled, having to use crutches. Deceased was often taken queer in the head in day-time, and this had been especially noticeable during the past two years. His father's brother's son shot himself, and one of deceased's sons was now an inmate of Exminster Asylum. … P.C. Mortimore said there was a discharged cartridge in the right barrel of the gun, and the trigger of the right barrel was between the first and second prong of a four-pronged fork. … The jury returned a verdict that the deceased died from a gunshot wound inflicted by himself while in an unsound state of mind.
